Ashland by Bike: A Cyclist’s Dream Destination
If you’re planning a trip to Ashland and love to explore on two wheels, you’re in for a treat. As longtime residents of Ashland, we know it isn’t just a charming town with great theater and beautiful scenery—it’s also one of the best places in the Pacific Northwest for biking of all kinds. From thrilling descents to scenic cruises, there’s a route here for every rider.
Road Cycling Through the Rogue Valley
Ashland’s picturesque roads and rolling hills make it a perfect home base for road cyclists. Take in sweeping views of the Rogue Valley and pedal through farmlands, vineyards, and quiet country lanes. Popular routes like Valley View Rd. provide the right mix of vineyard beauty and scenic landscapes.
We’re also excited to share that Ashland is now even more bike-friendly, thanks to new bike lanes installed along Ashland Street, making it safer and more accessible to explore town by road bike.
Mountain Biking Ashland’s Terrain
As locals, we’re incredibly proud of Ashland’s mountain biking scene. With over 13 miles of flowing downhill trails right outside town, the riding here is simply phenomenal. In fact, BikeMag.com named Ashland one of the top mountain biking destinations in the U.S., and for good reason—our trails combine natural beauty with professionally built flow, berms, and tech.
“One of our favorite family mountain bike outings starts at the White Rabbit trailhead. I often take my two older kids (ages 9 and 12) out for this ride. We climb the access road for about 15–20 minutes, then descend via the Caterpillar Trail right back to the parking lot. It’s a great loop that’s accessible and fun for riders with some basic trail experience.”
For more advanced riders looking to add some adrenaline, tack on the BTI Trail, which continues all the way into downtown Ashland. We love wrapping up a ride at Skout, a parkside hangout with craft beer on tap and giant homemade pretzels that hit the spot after a ride.
And for those who want to go even bigger, the Ashland Mountain Challenge, part of the California Enduro Series, draws mountain biking pros from around the country each year.
Don’t have your bike with you? No problem. Ashland Mountain Adventures offers shuttle services up to Mt. Ashland and rental bikes, so you can experience the downhill magic even if you’re just visiting.
Urban Biking & E-Bike Adventures Along Bear Creek Greenway
If a relaxed, scenic ride is more your speed, hop on an electric bike and enjoy the Bear Creek Greenway, a 20-mile paved path that stretches from Ashland to Central Point. Perfect for families and casual riders, the trail winds through parks and along the creek under cottonwoods and oaks.
We’ve partnered with Piccadilly Cycles, a fantastic local shop, to offer 10% off e-bike rentals for Swank House guests. Just send us a message, and we’ll share the code.
They also provide maps and recommendations for rides of all types and lengths. Their team is incredibly helpful and knows all the hidden gems.
We personally love how easy it is to grab an e-bike and ride to wineries, coffee shops, or out into the countryside without breaking a sweat.
